Do you have a preschooler that loves to sit and cut things up? Then you’ll love these scissor practice cutting sheets. Not only will cutting sheets help teach your child how to cut properly, but they offer great practice for cutting a straight line. Children also benefit from small motor development with their hands when using scissors, a crucial developmental process for preschoolers.

Cutting Practice

My daughter loves to cut things up and do “school.” I have been teaching her how to use scissors and gave her some scissor cutting practice sheets one day for fun. I could not believe how long it kept her occupied!

We used some cut and paste worksheets all day once! As she would cut, she would put her little tiny scraps in the bucket. She still asks me for papers to cut up.

Teaching Kids How to Hold Scissors

It might seem silly when you think about it, but holding scissors the correct way makes a huge difference in how straight a line can be cut. It also takes special muscles in your hands and fingers to hold the scissors properly. Cutting wavy lines is the next step, and can help

It’s important to not only teach kids how to hold scissors correctly, but safely as well. You’ll also want to teach them how to hold scissors while walking, because a fall could result in a serious injury.

How Cutting Sheets Can Help Fine Motor Skills

Cutting with scissors helps small children develop the muscles in their hands that are important for gripping objects and proper pencil-holding. So, not only can cutting sheets keep your kids occupied for a while, they will help them develop necessary muscles in their hands. Cutting practice sheets can also help develop proper hand-eye coordination.

Kid-Friendly Scissors

There are many different types of safety scissors. You can find scissors for toddlers or older kids, scissors for left-handed children, and more. Be sure to use beginner scissors with your little learner or they may cut themselves.

Free Scissor Practice Cutting Sheets

Scissor cutting practice worksheets are a fun way to encourage fine motor skills in your young children. Scissor skills also come in handy as the kids get older and want to complete crafts and projects.

Using preschool worksheets for cutting practice is super fun. Kids cut along the dotted lines, practice cutting in straight lines, and may also create a 2d shape. Don’t worry if your child leaves ragged edges. This will decrease as they complete these cutting activities.

For extra practice, you can also have kids take the scrap paper and make confetti.
