Top 10 Adventure Tiger Movies List for Kids
Tiger movies are a great choice for family movie night, because they can teach kids about wildlife, bravery and protecting nature. This Tiger Movies List includes movies with real live tigers, CGI tigers, animated movies and tiger documentaries.
Movies with Real Tigers
What makes these movies so exciting to watch, is that they are filmed with real tigers and not CGI. These movies feel extra special because there is no computer animation, and feature real live animals on screen. It makes them more exciting and magical for kids.
1. A Tiger Walks (1964) G – This is an older classic Disney film that tells the story of a mistreated tiger that escapes from a circus and roams free in a small town. The town wants to kill the tiger and the sheriff played by Brian Knight (the dad in the Parent Trap) and his daughter band together to save the tiger and get it into a zoo.
This story teaches compassion and courage as the town finally bands together to save the big cat and get it safely into a zoo.
2. A Tiger’s Tail (2014) PG – A fun comedy about a tiger cub named Luna that escapes from an animal sanctuary and hides in a young boy’s backpack. He takes it home to care for it and tries to hide the secret from his parents. This is a feel good family friendly film with chaos, lots of laughter and life lessons.
3. Two Brothers (2004) – PG – This tiger movies tells the story of two Indochinese tiger brothers named Kumal and Sangha, who are separated from their parents as cubs and raised apart. They are then reunited a year later as adult male tigers to find their way back home.
It’s a a powerful tale of survival, brotherhood, and the beauty of the wild. This is a family friendly movie with beautiful cinematography. My kids loved watching this movie growing up and watching the adventures of the tiger brothers in the wild.
Movies with CGI Tigers
Not every movie can use real tigers, and these movies all create lifelike tigers and animals using CGI, or computer animation. The special effects are so good, it’s sometimes hard to tell the difference! If your kids love action-packed stories with a little extra movie magic, these CGI tiger movies are a great pick.
4. Jungle Book (Live Action) (2016) PG – This beautiful remake of the animated classic brings the jungle to life with realistic CGI animals. There are many famous actors that voice the characters, and a few of the original songs from the animated version.
Shere Khan is the powerful and menacing big cat in this action-packed family adventure that is voiced by Idris Elba.
5. Life of Pi (2012) PG – Based on the book, this film is about a young boy stranded at sea with a fearsome Bengal tiger. Their journey of survival turns into a story of trust, friendship, and wonder. The tiger is CGI, though some close up shots of a tiger were used to keep it realistic.
6. Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018) PG-13 – This is a darker, more adventurous and intense version of the Jungle Book. There are also many famous actors that voice the CGI animals. This adaptation explores deeper themes and includes a more threatening portrayal of Shere Khan, which could be frightening for younger kids.
Animated Tiger Movies
Animated tiger movies are full of color, fun, and imagination. These stories bring big cats to life in creative ways that kids absolutely love. These films are perfect for family movie nights when you want something playful and entertaining.
7. The Tigger Movie (2000) G – A Disney animated film about one of my favorite characters from The Hundred Acre Wood. Tigger goes on a journey to find his “real family”, as Pooh, Piglet and Roo remind him that family isn’t about just looking the same. It’s about love and belonging.
This movie is so cute and full of catchy songs, and life lessons. It’s perfect for younger kids and any fan of the classic Winnie the Pooh stories.
8. Jungle Book (Animated) (1967) G – A classic Disney movie full of catchy songs and memorable characters that is based on Rudyard Kipling’s stories. It follows the adventures of Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves in the jungle, as he journeys to the man-village for his safety. Along the way, he meets some fun and scary characters.
There is a fun-loving bear named Baloo, and the wise panther Bagheera. He also faces the threats of King Louie the orangutan, Kaa the Burmese python and Shere Khan, a fearsome tiger who doesn’t trust humans.
Tiger Documentaries
My children love any and all animal documentaries, specifically the ones created by Disney Nature. They have breathtaking live footage, and easy to understand narration throughout the entire movie. They are educational and inspiring.
9. Disney Nature: Tiger (2022) PG – This beautiful documentary captures the life of a mother tigress named Ambar, raising her four cubs in the fabled forests of india. Narrated by Priyanka Chopra Jonas it shows an up close look at the challenges of tiger motherhood.
10. Tigers on the Rise (2024) PG – This is a Disney and National Geographic documentary Tigers on the Rise is a companion piece to Disney Nature Tiger. Instead of focusing on the tigers, it shows the efforts of tiger conservation to bring back the tiger populations in India.
This is a great movie for kids that want to get into the animal field. It highlights the work of of veterinarians, scientists, and community patrols who who work together so tigers and humans can coexist peacefully
Springboard Learning Ideas
Want to turn movie night into something a little more educational (but still fun)? Here are some springboard learning ideas to go along with the tiger movies list:
- Track Tiger Types: After each movie, look up what kind of tiger was featured. Was it a Bengal tiger? A Siberian tiger? An Indochinese tiger? Grab a map and find out where that tiger lives in the wild.
- Draw a Movie Poster: Kids can create their own tiger movie poster-real or imaginary! Add a title, tagline, and fun scene from the movie or their own tiger adventure idea.
- Compare Fiction vs. Reality: Watch a tiger documentary and then compare it with a fictional movie. What felt true? What was just movie magic?
- Write a Tiger Tale: Encourage your kids to write a short story about a tiger going on an adventure, getting lost, or meeting other jungle animals. Bonus points if they act it out or turn it into a comic!
- Celebrate International Tiger Day (July 29): Plan a tiger-themed day with crafts, tiger-face pancakes, and your favorite film from the list. It’s a great way to raise awareness about protecting these beautiful creatures!
