I always loved going to the library when I was growing up. After all, how many places can you go where a kid can have their own unique card, it’s completely free, and it smells like old books? This Taking a Trip to the Library Free Printable Pack is a great way to add even more fun to your family’s trip to the library!

Taking a Trip to the Library

There are so many ways for families to enjoy their local library! Some have events where you can read to animals, try a new craft, learn about engineering or first aid, try foods from around the world, and so much more!

Others have reading contests that can encourage even reluctant readers to choose a book and dive in! (How many of us remember reading books and earning free pizza?)

Living Books

Libraries are also home to countless living books, books that bring a subject to life and immerse the reader in another place and time.

These books can often teach subjects in ways that sink far deeper into our hearts and minds than reading a textbook can. We have lots of great resources and tips for how to use living books in your homeschool.

Learn About the Library

Learning about the library itself, such as what it offers and how it is all organized and presented, is another fun learning adventure your kids can go on. This Taking a Trip to the Library Free Printable Pack includes activities to help your kids explore the library, learn from a librarian, and more. Inside, they’ll find:

  • questions they can use to interview a librarian and space to record the answers
  • a library scavenger hunt that challenges them to find books in 22 different subject areas
  • a log for books they have borrowed and the due date for each book
  • a log for books they need to request a hold on
  • a log for books they have read
  • an activity where they can create fun titles for twelve books based on their covers (and color the covers if they wish)
  • a chance to create their own book cover and write a story to go with it

It’s a fun way to learn the ins and outs of how the library works, talk with a librarian, and maybe discover some new must-read books!
