Surrender Expectations in Your Homeschool

Expectations tend to put a damper on our plans. Perhaps we can stop putting so many on ourselves and family. What would our goals look like without expectations of how they “should” come out? Put down that white flag and surrender to the expectations in your homeschool.

I expected my kids to be a certain level and at a certain age. You understand my dilemma when, I provide an aptitude test for my kids, to find that my daughter was working at her level and my son was way below. It was a dagger to my spirit and I could have bet the test was wrong, but it wasn’t. It just meant we needed to adjust.

Expecting outcomes is tough. You set yourself up for failure and you set your family up for failure if you have expectations for them as well. Why do I know this? I did have spent much of my life setting expectations, myself.

I put them on my husband and he failed, I put them on my friends and children and they failed. Why? They failed because expectations are false. Instead of expectations, set goals so that people are able to reach them. You know with goals that there is a gradual process to them at times.

Expectations are like a hard line in the sand and people either meet them or they don’t. Why set hard lines for your family? Life is too short, and complicated, to expect a certain outcome.
