I had wanted to do a little mini – unit on artists this year but it was overwhelming trying to put together enough resources to make the unit complete and fun. I knew where to find all the information, but was having such a hard time finding activities. This is where HSITW saved me! The Artist’s Pak was just what I needed, the perfect blend of fun AND education. I had planned to complete the lapbook in about a month, but as I write this we still have not completed our lapbook, which is not to say we aren’t enjoying it. We are loving it so much, and each step we complete the boys ask for more information, or more activity. So as we did the lists of materials, the boys decided that they wanted to try their hand at some of them, thankfully we were able to visit a local art museum where they have many of the materials for the children to explore, and they had plenty of art to explore.
As we work on the artists folding books, we are taking time to learn more about each artist and again taking time to look at their work online. The boys especially loved the part where they got a chance to create works just like the artists. It really made them appreciate the time and effort an artist puts into their work! The artists game is put together and it sits next to us as we work to remind them that all their hard work will be rewarded with a game at the end. They really are excited each time we pull out the lapbook to work on it, and they always ask to do more! Way to go Home School in the Woods for creating such an awesome product that is both fun and educational!
My boys are a little younger than the recommended age and so as I said we haven’t completed the lapbook yet, but this project is doing exactly what I had hoped it would. The boys are asking questions, wanting more information, and really enjoying themselves learning about art. The activities are totally appropriate for them it just takes a little longer but, I am happy because this is exactly what I had wanted to put together myself, but was having so much difficulty. If you are at all unsure about this purchase I can personally tell you it’s worth every single penny, I honestly can’t wait until we start our next HSITW project!
