After discovering a few facts about geography, in general, I knew I needed to incorporate it more into my homeschool. Geography is one of those subjects that can easily get overlooked in your homeschool, unless you are intentional about it. I currently do contract work for international development and let me tell you, I wish I had learned more about the world and geographical locations when I was younger.
I now understand the value of geography in education, so I have started teaching geography in my homeschool without a curriculum. It is easier than you might think. One of the countries we will tackle this year is South Korea.
My daughter is really interested in Asian cultures and yes, she loves K-Pop. Note: If you haven’t heard of K-Pop, it’s Korean pop music that is popular everywhere. Additionally, my son trains in Judo, so it just made sense to incorporate South Korea in my homeschool schedule for geography this year.
October 3rd is South Korea’s National Foundation Day and we are so excited about studying it this year. National Foundation Day in South Korea is celebrated with ceremonies on the summit of Mount Manisan on an island called Kanghwa Island. The holiday has a cool myth behind it that your kids will enjoy.
If you are looking to explore a country full of bright colors, rich history, and unique facts, then the resources below can provide all you need to dive right into a South Korea Unit in your homeschool.
