HUGE List of Online Homeschool Curriculum {Sorted by Subject}

Over the years our homeschooling has changed and evolved. We started out with our oldest doing strict bookwork – reading, writing, math, science and a little history thrown in. We did everything from a book. I tried to find ones that would hold and keep his attention, but it was clear after our first year, he was moving faster than I could keep up.

When we added in the next two kids, I continued to fall behind and our oldest continued to struggle. He has always loved learning and what we were doing wasn’t fulfilling his passion for learning, or at least not at the pace he wanted to keep.

It was about four years ago that we were introduced to online homeschooling options. Our first introduction was CTCMath and we still use it. And when we added our fourth homeschooler, I knew I needed more help. I spent hours a day with each child and was taking care of a new baby, plus trying to keep up with the “grading” of papers and I suddenly found myself weeks behind.

Normally it wouldn’t have bothered me, except I found that our kids were missing concepts and not understanding their work for days and even weeks after they had moved on to the next page. That wasn’t going to work! So I did my research and found more online options that would work for our family.

Whether you find yourself needing to outsource a subject or two, wanting to teach your children more independence in their learning or being thrown into a homeschooling situation, these online homeschool solutions are sure to help!

All-Inclusive Online Homeschooling

These sites offer multiple subjects to cover grade-level and even some electives.

Power Homeschool – If you’re looking for a one-stop-homeschool-shop, Power Homeschool is a perfect place to start. This is a new one to me, but I love what I see. Their site is easy to navigate and they have everything laid out by grade and/or subject. They offer a full online curriculum for K-12, including electives and technical school classes for high schoolers (like HVAC). The classes are self-paced, so your child can learn on their own terms. The only downside I found is that students are only allowed to be enrolled in six (6) classes at a time. However, it is not an accredited homeschool if that matters to you. They do offer a 7-day trial period and the pricing is very reasonable, starting at $10/month for one class.

Time4Learning – Time4Learning offers online classes for Preschool – High School. They offer math and language arts that correlate with state standards. You’ll also find science for every grade and social studies classes for most grades (although I think you could easily work with what they offer to fill in the missing grades). Foreign Language and Writing courses are offered at an additional (discounted) rate. They are on the more pricey side, in my opinion, but they offer monthly payments and family discounts to help homeschool families. K-8th is $19.95/student ($14.95 for each additional child) and 9th-12th is $30/month for 4 courses.

Schoolhouse Teachers – Schoolhouse Teachers offers a full curriculum for Preschool – 12th Grade! You can easily browse their site by grade level or subject to find what you need. We love using Schoolhouse Teachers to fill in the spaces of our homeschool. They offer both online classes and some that require a little bit of printing. Most of them are completely self-paced, but some of the upper grades are taught as live courses. Many of the courses are taught by homeschool parents. Pricing is reasonable at about $16.50/month. But they often have sales and deals throughout the year, so watch for those to get the best one!

Monarch by AOP – If you love Alpha Omega Publishing, you’ll love Monarch, their online homeschool curriculum. This is a completely Christian based homeschool curriculum that offers access to 50 courses for up to 3 students. Each student will have courses for Bible, history and geography, language arts, math, and science. Courses include automatic grading, daily assignment views, due dates and more. Parents have an easy-to-use Teacher’s Dashboard that shows the student’s assignments, progress, grades and more. This program is on the pricey side for one student at $39.95/month, but the family option for 3 students is just $69.95/month. You can also choose to pay annually for a discounted rate.

Miacademy – I have not used this site, but I love the premise. They offer a full online curriculum (math, language arts, science, and social studies) for K-8th grade. In addition, they offer electives for art & music, foreign languages, and life skills. They encourage students to interact online with each other in the community and offer opportunities for them to write for the weekly online newspaper, video their own lessons, run their own shop and much more! It is reasonably priced at $19.95/month for one child. They also offer a lifetime membership for up to 4 children. If you’d rather have a family membership, they offer the ability to contact them for rates! I consider this definitely a viable option for those looking for a co-op alternative.

Abeka Homeschool Video Lessons – This is a new branch of the Abeka curriculum. I have not tested this or even heard of anyone using them, but it definitely looks intriguing! They are a very reputable and well-respected company, so I expect nothing less from their video lessons. One plus is that they offer four different options – single on-demand lessons, a limited number of video lessons by subject (FREE accreditation for 9-12), a combination of video lessons and subjects, and Abeka Academy with FREE accreditation (K5-12th). I will definitely say this is on the much pricier end of the spectrum, but if you’re looking for an accredited online school, it would be one to seriously consider.

BJU Press Homeschool – BJU teaches all their classes from a Biblical worldview, which our family loves. You can shop by grade (K5 – 12th) or subject. What I love about their options is that they deliver the video lessons from trained teachers but the parents retain control of the grading and lesson planning. This is a great option for those parents who also work and homeschool. This is a pricey curriculum, but they do offer down payments with a 6-month payment plan to make it a little more manageable. 

Outschool – While this isn’t necessarily an all-inclusive full curriculum website, they do offer over 10,000 online video classes in all main subjects, as well as electives. With so many options, you can pick and choose your teachers and when the classes are offered to better fit your schedule and child’s needs. Outschool is a very affordable option too starting at $5 per class.

IXL – This site has a lot to offer. The site started in 1998 and has evolved over the years. In 2007 they started offering a full K-12 Math curriculum online. They now also offer Language Arts for K-12 as well as Science (2nd-8th) and Social Studies (2nd-8th). And all ages can enroll in Spanish. Single subjects start at $9.95/month for families.

If you’re looking for accredited online homeschool choices, there are several Christian Schools that offer online classes for homeschoolers. Check out Southeast Academy Online, Northgate Academy, and NFC Academy.

 

Math

CTCMath – It’s no secret, this is our favorite math curriculum. We have used CTCMath for almost four years with our children and absolutely love it. They offer a full curriculum for K-12 (up to Calculus). And last year they added Speed Skills and Weekly Reviews that you can use for extra practice. I also love that they have a family rate that gives you access to every grade level, which allows kids to work at their own pace and even review when needed. Teaching Textbooks – Last year Teaching Textbooks came out with their 3.0 version. The 3.0 version is now completely online, rather than CD, like their former versions. There are some drawbacks to their program and pricing though. They only offer 3rd grade to Pre-Calculus, which might be an issue if you have children who excel in math. Their pricing is reasonable, starting at $43.08/year for the lower level classes and up to $67.08 for high school classes. Mathseeds – From the creators of Reading Eggs comes Mathseeds. Geared toward kids ages 3-9, Mathseeds “combines highly structured lessons with fun motivational elements that keep children engaged and keen to learn.” The best part is the app can be accessed from any phone, tablet or computer. Monthly subscriptions starting at $9.95.

Aleks – Aleks is a web-based, “artificially intelligent assessment and learning system” that uses “adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn’t know in a course.” As students work through problems and their course, the program evaluates their answers and level of learning to ensure the student is not only learning but retaining the information. Aleks is very affordable at $19.95/month, but they also offer family plans that vary in price based on the number of students.

A+ Interactive Math – Offering courses for 1st grade to Algebra 1, this program takes a multi-sensory approach to math incorporating audio, animated visuals and text, which all help to engage and keep the student’s attention. Right now pricing starts at $50/year (discounted right now from $124.99) for single students/classes and $149/year (discounted from $249.98) for the family package.

Mr. D Math -Mr. D Math concentrates on high school math – Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry. They offer two online options – Virtual Classroom or Self-Paced course. The Virtual Classroom option is a per semester course, which means they meet on a designated day of the week and assignments are set. The self-paced courses offer a little more flexibility and a less expensive option at just $197.

Tablet Class – This is another upper grade online math curriculum offering Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. I have no experience with these courses, but they have rave reviews from his previous students. Courses start at just $25/month or $195 for a full year.

 

Language Arts

Reading Eggs – While not a complete curriculum, Reading Eggs has helped thousands of children learn to read with confidence. They offer four levels of activities -Reading Eggs Jr (ages 2-4), Reading Eggs for ages 3-5 and 6-7, plus Reading Express for 7-13 years. It is also reasonably priced at just $9.95/month which gives access to every level, plus their sister site, Mathseeds.

Explode the Code Online – We used the books with our children, but never tried the online version. It looks intriguing and if you love the books and want less “mess,” I would totally give this a try! As far as pricing, it is designed for schools, but I still found it reasonable at $65/year for 1 student. Your payment does give you access to all eight levels, so kids can move through them at their own pace, which is definitely a plus.

Get Smart Digital Program – This program is from Grammar Revolution and while you will need to do a little work on paper, the videos are all online. I have followed her daily posts for several years and love her easy way of dissecting and explaining grammar and sentence diagramming. I am a huge fan of diagramming to teach sentence structure, so I highly recommend this program, even though I haven’t used it. It is very reasonably priced at just $99 for Lifetime Access!

Write at Home – I was introduced to this program several years ago when I attended a homeschool conference. I completely fell in love. While I am comfortable writing myself, teaching my children to do so was another story. This program is completely online and there is no grading done by the parents (the BEST part, in my opinion). They have a wide variety of courses ranging from Middle School thru High School. You can choose from 8-week intensive courses, semester courses or a full year. They also offer Literature courses too! I do find this one a bit pricey starting at $179 for 8-week intensives, but not having to read, critique and grade my child’s writing skills might just make it totally worth it.

Brave Writer Online Classes – If you’ve heard of the Brave Writer curriculum, you’ll love this new online class option! Classes are taught on a 3- or 6-week schedule to allow for maximum flexibility. The teacher and enrolled students have access to the unique Brave Writer Classroom where they will find their writing assignments and share their writing with each other. The actual writing is done on their own time, but submitted through the classroom portal. The feedback for each student is available to everyone so students can learn together in a “safe” environment. Class fees vary but start at $149 per session.

Essentials in Writing Online Classes – Right now they offer two online classes, Creative Writing (grades 11-12) and College Prep Writing (grades 11-12). These two courses are on a per-semester basis, so enrollment does close. While there is no set class meeting time, the assignments are due to the instructor weekly for review. These two courses are reasonably priced at $99 ane $149 per semester (respectively). NOTE: They do offer streaming services for their other courses, but still require physical textbooks.

Daily Grammar – We used this program with my oldest a few years ago. While all done online, these lessons do not include any video instruction, but rather all reading. At times I did have to help my child with understanding his assignment, but it is self-grading, which I liked. After using it, I wouldn’t recommend this for young learners but rather more of a review for upper grades. There are also quizzes at the end of each section. The nice thing about this is it is completely FREE to use!

 

 Science

Journey Homeschool Academy – We have taken mini-courses from Luke and loved it! His teachings are Christian based and taught from a Biblical worldview. They offer two classes, Experiencing Biology and Experiencing Astronomy, for both Elementary and High School. Enrollment periods are limited for all classes and are set to begin April 7th, 2020. Parents have a choice of starting dates for the biology courses, but the astronomy course is not flexible as it follows the stars and sky during the year (which is super cool). There is some bookwork for biology, which is recommended but not required. However, the weekly labs which are done at home are required. The high school levels can be taken for credit or non-credit. Elementary level classes at $129/family and the high school classes are just $279 for credit, with options to pay over 3-months making them very affordable options.

Online Unit Studies – Techie Homeschool Mom has quite a few online Science unit studies. These are nice when you want to study just one particular topic. She has units on Stars, the Solar System, Marie Curie, and Thomas Edison, which are great additions to any science curriculum. They are reasonably priced too at just $24 each ($8 for Marie Curie).

Apologia Online Academy: Science – We have used Apologia Science in our homeschool for years. Our oldest is finishing Biology this year and we love their Biblical worldview method of teaching. Not only do they offer physical books, they now offer many of their curriculum choices in an online academy. They are live classes and have a scheduled meeting time, but otherwise, the coursework is self-paced (as in students can do it all in one day or spread it out). Choose from General Science, Biology, Marine Biology, Health and Nutrition, Chemistry, Physics, plus advanced courses in some of them. Courses are $588 for the year and they offer payment plans to help as well.

Fascinating Education – Taught by Dr. Sheldon Margulies, students will be amazed at how easy and simple science really is. Dr. Margulies uses simple, colorful illustrations as well as audio files to teach science in a step-by-step manner that even those who know nothing about science can understand. He shows the relation to their everyday life, which makes it relatable too. Students then complete experiments at home and tests to complete the course work. Choose from Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Medicine starting at just $79 for a full year.

Supercharged Science – If your kids love experiments, Supercharged Science might just be the perfect fit! Their hands-on science curriculum is available for 1st – 12th grades. Classes start at $57/month, which is a bit on the pricey side for me, but the hands-on approach is a fantastic STEM learning method. Science4Us – This is an online curriculum specifically designed for K-2 students. They offer Physical Science, Inquiry Science, Life Science, and Earth/Space Science. Pricing is done on a request basis when you email into their support. They also offer “math and science simulations for grades 3-12 [that include] over 400 Gizmos aligned to the latest standards help educators bring powerful new learning experiences to the classroom.”

Thinkwell Homeschool – They offer Honors Biology ($150) and Honor Physics 1 ($125) for high school students. These are definitely upper-level classes for students serious about a career in science or engineering (physics). All lessons are video-based with optional printable notes.

Christian Kids Explore Science – This science series includes Biology, Chemistry, Creation Science, Earth & Space, and Physics, taught completely online through The Academy at Bright Ideas Press. With just 3-4 videos per week and outside assignments, students can complete these courses at their own pace. They are reasonably priced at just $165/course.

 

History & Geography

Mystery of History Online Classes – Now you can access this highly acclaimed Christian history course as a LIVE or Self-Paced class. You can purchase them through The Academy at Bright Ideas Press for just $275/year.

Compass Classroom – This widely acclaimed history curriculum is now available in a downloadable & streaming format! You can get all three levels – Antiquity, American History and Modernity for just $120 each. These are taught from a Christian worldview as they bring history to life for students.

Heritage History – While not an online curriculum per se, this site does offer a very large library of online books, quiz games, study resources, and more all FREE of charge! This is a wonderful way to supplement history for your student.

American History and Government – From Teaching American History, you can get an entire American History and Government curriculum absolutely FREE! They offer a sample file for you to view and if you like it, just fill out the form and they will email you the entire PDF curriculum! What a deal!

Techie Homeschool Mom Online Unit Studies – You’ll find a wide variety of online homeschool unit studies from Techie Homeschool Mom. You can learn about Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome as well as the history of the Presidency for as low as $8.
