Can you believe that Summer is almost here? Some homeschoolers school year round and school throughout the summer. Others take an entire summer off, and some do a light summer school. Regardless of which one you choose you will love these FREE Summer Learning Ideas and Resources to keep your schooling fun this summer.
Summer can be a great time of family fun, messy play, pool, lakes, beaches, water games and lots of free time. The free time is a tough one for a stay at home mom.
It is easy to get relaxed during the summer and let your kids play video games, and watch tv all day long. Don’t get me wrong, we all do it, and it can be a much needed break.
I prefer to keep my kids learning during the summer, but not doing a full homeschool day. Luckily, there are many fun, learning activities that will keep your kids active and not just stuck in front of a screen all day. These summer learning ideas will create some great summer memories for you and your children.
I have fond memories of summer time with popsicles, homemade slip and slides and hours under the sprinkler. You can do all of these while still sneaking in some learning.

Prevent the Summer Slide
Summer Slide is a real thing. This is when children actually lose 20 – 25% of what they have learned the previous year. This is especially prevalent in elementary grades. To prevent this we need to keep some kind of light learning going on through the summer.
This can be accomplished by daily reading time, and math flash cards or some fun math worksheets. There are other fun activities you can do as well.
If your library has a summer reading program that is a great way for your kids to track what they are reading. If your library isn’t participating in a program this year, there may be virtual ones available or you can create your own.
