This week in our Famous Scientist series we will be learning about the scientist who laid the foundation for the principles of physics and the laws of motion.

One of the first scientists that we learned about when studying science is the greatest physicist of all time: Sir Isaac Newton. He is considered the Father of Modern Physics and is a fun scientist to study about. When you learn about his inventions and theories you can incorporate a ton of hands-on activities into your lessons. Physics can be a difficult science topic because it carries a lot of math weight with it, but it can be a lot of fun too.
Biography of Isaac Newton:
Sir Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, England. He was the son of a farmer who died before he was born and he did not want to come home early to farm. He wanted to learn and stay in school. Isaac was able to attend Cambridge university when he was 19 years old. Not only was he an important scientist, he was a genius mathematician that developed a “new mathematics” which is Calculus. He even became a math professor at Cambridge at the age of 27. He is responsible for discovering gravity, developing the theory of gravity, the laws of motion, inventing calculus, and inventing the reflecting telescope which astronomers still use today.
