Summertime usually brings a relaxed schedule and lots of free time for kids. If you’re worried that your children will get a little rusty, you can use a reading log to help them stay brushed up. If reading is your main objective, then any books will do. If you want your child to retain learned information from a certain topic, then give your child a list of approved books. For example, if he studied zoology this past year, then you could have him read some books like National Geographic’s Animals: Giraffes and Wind in the Willows. The trick is to find fiction and non-fiction books that will capture his attention and be fun to read.

This free, printable Reading Log is one that kids can color. You set the goal and the reward. Your child will enjoy keeping track of the number of books he’s read by coloring in a new book cover each time.
