Shelter is one of our most basic needs, but throughout history, people have found unique and creative ways to build shelters that meet their needs, celebrate their culture, and much more. Introduce your students to ten of these types of shelters with this FREE Homes Around the World Guided Drawing unit.
Homes Around the World
Some were made out of wood; others were made out of reeds. Some were plain; others were highly decorated. Some were built in hot, humid climates, and others were built to withstand subzero temperatures.
This FREE Homes Around the World Guided Drawing unit introduces kids to ten different types of homes and the people who built them.
In this unit, students will learn about the:
- chickee (Seminole)
- Dutch floating home (Dutch)
- tukul (Ethiopia)
- goahti (Sami)
- izba (Russia)
- Lake Titicaca reed house (Uru)
- pubelo (Pueblo)
- Tudor (English)
- Viking longhouse (Viking)
- yurt (Mongol)
They will:
- read about the people and their homes
- practice drawing either half or all of a picture of each home on a grid
- take a quick review quiz at the end if they like
It’s a great way to combine art and social studies!
