Much to my children’s dismay, I am not an arts and crafts type of homeschool mom. I am not so sure why because when I was a child I enjoyed making hands-on crafts. Throughout the years I have come to appreciate activities and books that make creating art projects and making crafts easy for even the non-artsy mom.

When my oldest was in fourth grade I reviewed Geography Through Art by GeoMatters. We enjoyed this book very much and I have been hanging onto it until my next in line was old enough to enjoy it. You can read my review for more details and you can scroll down to get this book for free (limited time only!).

Free Limited Time Geography & Art Curriculum

I have worked with Geo Matters over the years and have used their curriculum in our homeschool. Much to my delight, we have all come to like geography studies in our family. Last year we used their State Notebook when we spent the whole school year learning about the 50 states, along with the Desk Atlas of the United States. We have also incorporated Galloping the Globe and Cantering the Country into our history and geography lessons. throughout the years. Geography Through Art is a perfect companion to the Trail Guide to World Geography.

What is Geography Through Art?

Geography Through Art is a book full of international art projects that cover twenty-five countries spanning six continents. What a great way to learn about other countries and cultures using hands-on crafts and art projects. Sarah is using this in her co-op this year and so far the kids love it.

Geography Through Art is a great supplement to add to your study of geography, history, or social studies. Before you get started you will learn all about the geography notebook you will be creating along with tips and a general supply list.

The book covers each continent, including an overview of the whole continent and a map and all of the important facts. You will find useful templates to use, such as the Countries of the World fact sheet your child can use with the study of each or some of the countries individually.

Here are just a few of the exciting projects inside:

  • Russian Mosaics
  • Polish Paper Cutting
  • Australian Didgeridoos
  • Indian Batik
  • Japanese Fish Printing
  • Chinese Scrolls
  • Aboriginal Dot Painting
  • Stained Glass Windows
  • Pennsylvania Dutch Fraktur
  • Tagua Nut Carvings

I would have no problem using this as a complete elementary geography curriculum by throwing in good living books, extending some of the map lessons, and taking advantage of the Countries of the World fact sheet provided. It definitely is a whole art program and even involves some great history facts. I highly recommend Geography Through Art.

This GeoPack contains the Trail Guide to World Geography 36-week teacher’s manual PLUS the key core materials your students will use throughout their study of world geography. This geography set will work for grades 3-high school with custom selections AND it ships for FREE! Check it out here.
