The animals of the Himalaya Mountains are some of the cutest and most unusual animals you will ever see. What makes them so unique is that they were created to withstand extreme cold temperatures. They have very thick skin, thick fur coats and lots of hair. These features make them look so fuzzy, cuddly and funny looking. Your children will really enjoy learning about these unique and rare creatures.

Geography of the Himalayan Mountains:

The Himalyas stretch across the northeastern part of India. They cover around 1,500 miles and cross through India, China, Budapest, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal. T

There are three types of mountain ranges in the Himalayas called the Greater Himalayas, Lesser Himalayas and the Outer Himalayas. The ecology of the Himalyas is very diverse ranging from grasslands, to forests. There are many types of animals located in the different regions.

Grasslands and Shrublands – Animals that can be found in this region include the snow leopard, Himalayan tahr, musk deer, and pikas.

Coniferous Forest – The animals found in this region include the adorable red pandas, takins, and musk deer.

Temperate Broadleaf and Mixed Forests: This area includes a large range of wildlife. There are over 500 species of birds in the cooler months. This is also the main home for the golden langur monkeys.

Tropical and Sub-tropical Broadleaf Forests: This area is home to tigers and Asian elephants as well as 340 species of birds.
