As we get closer to the holidays and the weather gets chillier, fall crafts are a great way to keep your homeschool feeling warm and cozy while occupying little ones who may not be thrilled with how much inside time the cold weather brings. This autumn, try easy leaf doodle craft that’s good for any age—yes, Mom, that means it’s for you, too!
Step One
Start by collecting fallen leaves and pressing them in a book to dry them out. Let your leaves dry, pressed in a book, for about a week.
Pro Tip: Avoid collecting the day after it rained. Even if the leaves don’t look wet, they will likely still be holding a lot of moisture and your books may get damp when you press the leaves.
Step Two
Set up a good work space. You may want to consider using wax paper or butcher paper to protect your table.
Step Three
Draw on the leaves with a metallic sharpie. Encourage your children to turn the leaves into little creatures or draw on them to practice their shapes. Older kids can get creative with complex geometric designs or patterns.
Pro Tip: Once all doodling is complete, you can coat the leaves with Mod Podge to bring back some of the vibrance they can lose during the drying process. This also makes them less brittle if your children feel compelled to take their new leaf friends on adventures!
