15+ of the Best Shark Movies on Hulu and Disney Plus

Spring is here, but summer is coming soon and its time to start thinking about fun summer activities. Our favorite one being Shark Week! Get ready for some summer fun with this list of the best shark movies on Hulu and Disney +.

15 of the Best Shark Movies on Hulu or Disney+
All of these movies and documentaries are available to stream on Hulu or Disney Plus. If you get a subscription to Disney + and Hulu + Live TV plan you can even watch Shark Week live from the Discovery Family channel.
You can watch any of the Hulu content like Hulu originals and Disney original series. You can access content on the Hulu app or Disney + app. Please note that availability can change and new things are added while old things are taken off and vice versa.
G and PG Shark Movies on Hulu
1. Shark Tale (2004) PG – Starring the amazing voice talent of: Will Smith, Jack Black, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Renee Zellweger and Angelina Jolie. Shark Tale is about a vegetarian shark who accidentally kills a gangster shark boss and uses the new found fame for his advantage. This is a fun family film that you will want to watch over and over again.
2. Journey to the South Pacific (2013) G – This beautiful documentary was originally shown on the IMAX big screen. It is narrated by Cate Blanchett and takes you on an underwater voyage to Indonesia to learn about its inhabitants such as giant rays and whale sharks. It also teaches about the efforts in the South Pacific for ocean conservation.
3. Jaws (1975) PG – On a list of classic favorites is Jaws directed by Steven Spielberg, starring RIchard Dreyfuss, Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw. After a great white shark attack in a beach town in Cape Cod, a local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer team up to hunt it down.
This shark film set the tone for so many shark movies. It is a great 1970’s movie full of practical special effects, makeup and props.
PG 13 Shark Movies on Hulu
Most shark attack movies are horror movies due to the extreme suspense, usually from the impending shark attacks. These movies are all rated PG-13. There are intense scenes, blood and some language in the stressful situations.
4. The Meg (2018) PG13 – This movie is about a group of scientists in the middle of the ocean, exploring the Mariana Trench. A massive creature, a mega attacks their deep-sea submersible dive boat, leaving it broken, trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific. An oceanographer, starring Jason Statham comes to rescue them to discover a 75 ft. prehistoric megalodon shark has attacked them.
5. The Shallows (2016) PG 13 – This intense survival thriller stars Blake Lively, a young med student who travels to a secluded beach to mourn the loss of her mother and get some peace. Surfing alone, only 200 yards from the beach, she is attacked by a Great White shark and stuck in the middle of the ocean on a rock.
6. 47 Meters Down (2017) PG 13 – Mandy Moore and Claire Holt play two sisters that are trapped in a shark cage in shark-infested waters at the bottom of the ocean and low on oxygen. This thriller captures their journey of survival as they fight to get out in time, and surrounded by a group of hungry sharks.
7. Sharknado (2013) Not Rated Made for TV Movie – Sharknado has become a campy, cult classic starring Ian Zering and Tara Reid dealing with tons of white sharks coming out of a hurricane in Los Angeles! There are 4 Sharknado movies and each one just gets more ridiculous.
This movie is for pure entertainment and not recommended for children and better for older teens or young adults. There is blood and gore, language and stereotyping of helpless women.
Shark Documentaries on Disney +
Disney + has an amazing collection of popular favorites for Shark Week and an entire shark section on the streaming service. These shark films by National Geographic are fun and fascinating to watch. There is so much to learn about sharks and you and your kids will have a good time watching these together.
8. Sky Sharks – This fascinating and terrifying documentary shows the advancement of drones to fly over the ocean and film sharks. These drones reveal that the sharks live much closer to the shores than we thought.
9. Jaws Vs. Boats – There have been many You Tube videos surfacing of sharks attacking boats aggressively and for no reason. This documentary follows two scientists as they investigate what is causing these attacks of boats by sharks.
10. When Sharks Attack – Kids who like forensic science will enjoy this show. It takes a look at the science behind why sharks bite humans. These experts search for clues and analyze data in a VFX shark lab to get the forensic details of why sharks attack.
11. Baby Sharks – Learn about baby sharks, how they are born without a parent to raise them and how they adapt and survive on their own.
12. Shark Beach with Chris Hemsworth – After a series of shark attacks along the East Coast of Australia, Chris Hemsworth goes on a mission to uncover the science of shark behavior. He wants people and sharks to be able to live safely together.
13. Playing With Sharks – This is such a fascinating documentary and true story of shark conservationist and photographer Valerie Taylor and her life’s purpose to protect sharks. With old video footage from the 1950’s, interviews, stories and fun movie trivia, this film is a delight to watch.
14. Shark Queens – Scientist search for answers to see if female sharks are the most dominant and largest sharks in the ocean.
15. Shark Side of the Moon – This interesting science documentary explains the behaviors of Hammerhead sharks and their migration. It follows them as they migrate across the Tropical Pacific according to the lunar cycle.
We highly recommend:
Soul Surfer (2011) PG – This is our personal favorite for one the best shark movies. It’s the real life story of champion female surfer Bethany Hamilton. She lost her arm to a shark attack, but did not let that stop her from continuing to pursue her dreams of surfing and ministry.
This is a wonderful family friendly, faith filled movie that is so inspiring. Available to rent on Amazon Prime or streaming on Netflix.
