Before we started traveling a couple of years ago, I never knew how popular rock painting and hiding was. We literally found them every where we camped. Once the kids found a couple, they were hooked! They begged to paint their own rocks, but we didn’t have the supplies with us.
Rock painting has really taken off and become a world all its own. They have Facebook groups for the rocks hidden and found. People have special numbers, codes and even hashtags to follow the movement of their rocks!
Now that we are stationary, we don’t find as many rocks. However, every once in a while they get lucky and find one here at our campground. Then the conversation starts again about painting rocks. Well…I found the perfect day for rock painting – January 7th is Old Rock Day!
Of course, you can paint rocks any time of the year, but this would be a fun way to celebrate the day and get a jump on all your rock painting for the summer travel months! Plus…it’s a great indoor activity when the weather doesn’t cooperate.
