You have probably heard the phrase “Seven Wonders of the World” before, but did you know there are several “categories” of “wonders?” We really enjoy studying about geography in our homeschool and the “Seven Wonders of the Natural World” are very fascinating and point to an incredible Creator who is truly such a beautiful artist.
How about adding some interesting geographical facts about these wonders to your reading comprehension lessons? These breathtaking natural landscapes will capture your student’s attention and teach them facts they will want to remember!
The Seven Wonders of the Natural World that are covered in this reading comprehension geography unit are:
- aurora borealis
- Mount Everest
- Paricutín
- Victoria Falls
- Harbor of Rio de Janeiro
- Grand Canyon
- Great Barrier Reef
You will discover much debate and contradiction in regards to the Seven Wonders of the Natural World if you do a search on the Internet. We are not taking sides here, we are using just one of the many lists available. Either way, the ecological wonders we have included are truly spectacular and will leave you speechless if you ever saw them in real life.
Reading comprehension lessons have been a lifesaver in my homeschool. Since I like to correlate everything we are learning with resources that reinforce specific topics, diving into nonfiction reading comprehension lessons has been an easy tie-in!
If you want to look up locations on the globe to go along with your study, here is a list so you can prepare:
Mount Everest – located in a small south Asian country named Nepal
The Grand Canyon – located in Arizona
aurora borealis, or northern lights – can be seen from Iceland, Alaska, Canada, Norway, Northern Sweden and Finland, south Greenland (north is too far)
The Harbor at Rio de Janeiro – located in Brazil, South America.
The Great Barrier Reef – found in Queensland, Australia
Paricutin: found in the Mexican state of Michoacán, near the city of Uruapan
Victoria Falls – located in southern Africa on the Zambezi River at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe
This reading comprehension unit has been reformatted and expanded and is no longer free.
It is now included as part of the Nonfiction Reading Comprehension, Written Narration & Research resource found in our store. This full year reading comprehension unit is so much more than just reading comprehension. Click here to learn more.
