Spelling lists can be dreadful to some kids, over and over each week. Why not use these word sort activities to help make spelling fun and break up the monotony of spelling lists. Instead of receiving a list of 15-20 spelling words, children receive a group of words in table format. Word sorts allow children to make generalizations about words which they can apply to new words as they read and write. Students can actively practice comparing, contrasting, and analyzing with these word sorts.
