Memorization is one of the first signs of learning for all kids. From a very early age, children learn to memorize before they understand. From the alphabet to core subjects, as children grow older, memorization can be used as a tool to build on knowledge. This ultimate list of history and geography memory tools will help them to brush up on these subject areas.

The Ultimate List of History & Geography Memory Tools

Now living in another country, I was really disappointed in myself that I wasn’t able to recall historical or geographical information from the United States to my kids. My husband, not from America, knew more than I did! Why wasn’t I able to tell children simple things from America — the land that I was so proud to be born in?

I was determined to start teaching my kids about the country we live in, but also the great country that they were born into. If I can admit, putting their curriculum together and going through it with them has really helped me as well.

Living overseas, I have found that people from other countries know more about geography and history of the world, including the United States, more so that the Americans I knew. I hope, as homeschoolers, we can take the initiative to change that dynamic.

I do have a horrible memory though – I passed that onto my son. My husband and daughter, on the other hand, do really well at retaining information. Because memorization is such an important factor in your child’s education, this ultimate list of history and geography memory tools is amazingly useful for both you and your kids to learn more about history and geography in your homeschool.
