The Fourth of July is a big holiday around our neighborhood. We love celebrating our nation and are proud to be Americans. We always have friends over for a cookout and we do fireworks and sparklers with friends and family. Usually our neighbors join in as well. There are always lots of memories to be made around this holiday each summer.

Celebrating the 4th of July

My girls really enjoying hosting this holiday celebration at our house. They like to help make fun desserts, and festive appetizers. They like to decorate the house in patriotic décor. We read books about the birth of our country, the kids like to draw and do some fun patriotic themed crafts. I call it “holiday school”. We will spend a week usually doing fun things like that and getting ready to host for the big day.

Fun Holiday Themed Writing Prompts:

One of the other things I like to do during the holidays is to assign them some writing prompts. This helps to keep their writing skills and hand writing practice over summer break. Assign is more of a school/teacher word, so I guess I don’t really like to assign my kids things to do. What I do instead is to gather up a few different things for them to choose from. They usually get excited about this and are very eager and willing to participate when I make it more of a choice, and not a school assignment.
