Famous Landmarks of the World

I can look back on my life and say that I have been truly blessed. In preparation for writing about world landmarks, I sat down to write down the famous landmarks I have visited in my lifetime.

It was a shock to me that I have visited so many amazing landmarks and I had to stop to thank the Lord for allowing me such cool experiences.

Outside of the United States, including Puerto Rico, life has taken me to Spain, Italy, Germany, Gibraltar, Morocco, Australia, Fiji, and now Tonga in the South Pacific.

This was exactly the reason why I decided to join the United States Navy – so I could travel and see the world!

Famous World Landmarks I Have Visited:

  • Central Park, New York
  • Statue of Liberty, New York
  • Empire State Building, New York
  • Golden Gate Bridge, California
  • Sistine Chapel, Rome, Italy
  • Vatican City, Rome, Italy
  • St. Paul’s Cathedral, Rome, Italy
  • Colosseum, Rome, Italy
  • Trevi Fountain, Rome, Italy
  • Pantheon, Rome, Italy
  • Spanish Steps, Rome, Italy
  • Alhambra, Granada, Andalusia, Spain
  • Royal Palace in Madrid, Spain
  • Cathedrals in Sevilla and Mallorca, Spain
  • Catacombe SS. Marcellino e Pietro – Mausoleo di S. Elena, Rome, Italy
  • Rock of Gibraltar, Gibraltar (British Territory, at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, by Southern Spain)
  • Strait of Gibraltar (literal separation of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean)
  • Sydney Opera House, Sydney Australia

I can’t even believe this list. This is why I talk about traveling and exploring other countries with my family. Currently, both my younger kids have an interest in going to Japan. They’ve been learning about the new wonders of the world in our non-fiction reading lessons.

My husband and I are excited about that. We love to travel and want our children to experience the beautiful natural and man-made landmarks of the world. We’re using free famous landmarks worksheet printables as a supplement to our social studies lesson plans.

What Exactly is a World Landmark?

In old English, the word landmark or landmearc (from land + mearc (mark)) described an object set up to mark the boundaries of a kingdom, estate, etc.

Today, a world landmark is a famous or recognizable building or structure that can be natural by creation or an artificial feature that’s man-made.
