The more you dig into modern history with your students, and the closer you come to the present day, the harder it can be. You can use this FREE Modern History Activities & Notebooking: 2000s unit to start a discussion about five important events from this decade.
This FREE Modern History Activities & Notebooking: 2000s unit is a great tool that you can use to help your kids learn more about the not-so-distant past. Through puzzles and activities, they’ll get an overview of the following events:
- United States Presidential Election of 2000
- World Trade Center attack (2001)
- Space Shuttle Columbia disaster (2003)
- Hurricane Katrina (2005)
- United States Presidential Election of 2008
Parents, due to the violent nature of the World Trade Center attacks, please use your discretion in determining what events you want your students to learn more about and also what resources they use to research the information, as some could contain graphic material.
As they complete the puzzles and activities, a big picture for each of these events will emerge. Notebooking questions follow that students can use to dig deeper and learn more about the people, places, and events discussed. The unit concludes with a crossword puzzle that reviews the material covered. Answer keys for all puzzles are included.
There is more to this unit than history, however. You can use this unit to help your student develop and sharpen independent research skills. You can even have them note the sources they use since this is a skill they’ll need for writing papers in the future. Don’t miss all the FREE Modern History Activities and Notebooking units.
