My Book Journey Notebooking Journals are available as a Thinking Kids subscriber freebie. The journals are 51 pages long, and allow children to record just a few facts about each book they read.
In addition to recording the title, author and number of pages in each book, children will learn to identify the genre of each book (ie. historical fiction, classic novel, biography, etc) and what the theme is. They will learn to concisely identify the plot, and record a few thoughts about each book.
The My Book Journey Notebooking Journal contains periodic artwork and information grid, with space to record information on 83 books! The writing space in the journals is appropriate for around 3rd to 9th grade. The information boxes for each book in the My Book Journey Notebooking Journal are intentionally short.
Children won’t be required to write a book report on each book they read (thus killing the joy of just reading). It will only take 5-10 minutes to add to their record.
Notebooking about the books they’ve read will help your children create a record of their reading accomplishments. They’ll learn to identify genre and to understand themes. You will need to help them with these at first. Students will also learn to concisely summarize the plot and their thoughts on each book they read. These are important skills which will help kids develop discernment and wisdom as they read.
