Advent is a Latin word meaning coming or arrival. It’s the season of up to 28 days prior to Christmas Day (Dec. 25) when Christians prepare for the coming of Jesus.

The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas can be wonderful yet busy. Because our busyness can drown out our deeper desires to meditate, pray, read Scripture, and bask in God’s goodness, being intentional during Advent is a must.

Have a Christ-focused Advent season this year. You need it! Your children need it! And God is worthy of it. Here are resources to help you stay centered on the coming of Christ as a babe in Bethlehem.

Christmas School: Adding Holiday Cheer to Homeschool Academics

Do you dream about an unpressured holiday season filled with joy, memories, and time well spent? What if you could be more intentional about how you and your family spend the holiday season allowing you to really savor it? That can be a challenge if you are struggling with scheduling conflicts, unplanned illnesses, or your perception of other people’s expectations.

As you prepare for Christmas, you get to take advantage of one of the biggest benefits of homeschooling: flexibility. Instead of falling haphazardly into craziness this time of the year, you can approach it calmly and with joy. If your children are getting caught up in the hype and excitement of the holidays, take control of how you want to celebrate by incorporating some fun holiday school. In this video our Sonlight experts will help you weave your school and holiday traditions together including:

  • Making Christmas prep a part of school
  • Flexing your schedule without sacrificing academics
  • Incorporating fun
  • Teaching your kids why we celebrate Christmas
  • Unique ways to give
  • Preventing burnout
  • Creating or adopting traditions
  • Options for celebrating Advent
  • Focusing on what matters most
