In this day and age, and with homeschool growing in popularity, the curriculum choices are endless! There are so many things to choose from, and so many different styles for every kind of learner. As technology changes and advances, and computers and tablets get cheaper, the digital curriculum options get larger and larger. Using digital curriculum can be a huge help to many homeschooling families.

If you are wondering if digital curriculum is for you, you will want to weigh the benefits of using it. I was skeptical when I first saw digital options for my well loved books and lesson plans. How would I ever replace real books in our homeschool? Then I started talking to others who were getting their digital items for cheap or even free! I had to try it out for myself. The more I use digital curriculum, the more I realize what a great option it is for our homeschool.
If you too, are wondering if using digital curriculum is for you, check out the awesome benefits that come with using it:
Convenience:
Have you ever been in the middle of a specific study and realized you didn’t have a certain book that was required? Maybe you were missing the workbook and you had to order it before you could even get started on the curriculum. When you own digital curriculum it is ready and available at your fingertips. You don’t have to wait for it to ship, or order extras for other members in your family. You already own it on your devices and it is ready to go!
Can be reused in your own family and with multiple children.
Most publishers allow you to print or use as many copies as you want within the walls of your own home and family. This means that if you buy a teacher manual you already own it and can use it over and over again. If you have a student workbook you can print it out for each of your children whenever you need it. This means less consumables, and no more having to purchase individual workbooks for each child. If you have lots of kids this can really add up to tremendous savings.
Affordability:
Since the curriculum is digital, the savings for the publisher are tremendous. There are no fees for printing and binding the books, there are no high shipping fees. These huge savings get passed on to you, the consumer. This is why digital formats are so much cheaper than the print format. The savings is usually 50-75% of the cost of a print book. Sometimes, these publishers will offer freebies for a limited time. When this happens, this can be a huge blessing. I love stocking up on curriculum when I can get it for a steal!
Saves space:
If you have been homeschooling for a long period of time, you already know how much space large teacher manuals take up. History and Science spines can be huge. If you have multiple children that you are homeschooling then you probably don’t want to get rid of everything each year. Many homeschoolers save their books to use with their younger children for when they get up to the grade to use it. These large books can take up ALOT of room. If you have a small home or you travel a lot, you may not have the space or ability to store so many books for the future. Keeping the bulk of your curriculum on a digital device will save you tons of space to keep for physical books and literature and readers for your family.
Portable for on the go learning:
I love being able to store most of my teacher manuals on our Kindle Fire Tablet. When I need to look up directions, or answers to a problem, I don’t have to pull out a huge, heavy book to get what I need. All I have to do is pull it up on my tablet. This works great when you are traveling, or doing school on the go. There were many years when we had multiple therapist appointments in a week where we were doing school in the waiting room. Digital curriculum would have made my life so much easier. I remember having to lug a GIANT bag of heavy books and teacher manuals around with us, along with a diaper bag, a baby and a stroller. Digital curriculum is amazing for families that are constantly on the move!
I hope that learning about the benefits of digital curriculum will help you to see how much it can benefit your family. If you were a skeptic like me, you should give it a try and see how much it can change your life!
