Sometimes a student needs a little help remembering all the facts, and school cheat sheets can help. Let these free printable cheat sheets for students by topic help your child remember facts for various topics and subjects.

What are school cheat sheets?

Kids can easily study the difference between an adjective and an adverb or between a quadrilateral and a parallelogram with school cheat sheets.

A cheat sheet is a concentrated version of all that a student needs to study for a test or unit and all in one place/sheet. Cheat sheets are not school notes, but they are many times derived from lessons and notes taken in a lesson.

Cheatsheets contain the most important information on what someone has learned. When I was in school, a teacher of mine would knock on his desk when there was important information we needed to learn on a test. A cheat sheet would be filled with THAT information.

What is the purpose of a cheat sheet?

A cheat sheet is a written or graphic aid used as a reference to help in understanding or remembering lessons and complex information. A cheat sheet is synonymous with a reference sheet, the terms are interchangeable.

Cheat sheets can contain notes with complex information, formulas, and key terms a student needs to study to remember lesson information and to understand tough topics.

Are cheat sheets helpful?

There is plenty of research out there about cheat sheets and whether they are helpful or not. This section is purely my opinion and why we use cheat sheets in my homeschool.

I say that cheat sheets are only as effective as a student puts into studying. For instance, cheat sheets wouldn’t be effective for students who care less about school. They also don’t work well for those kids who don’t pay attention enough to know what to study.

For my daughter, who is extremely studious, cheat sheets are effective. She does one for all her subjects, mostly. Writing down pertinent information helps her remember.

My son, on the other hand, is a whole different story. If I left him to take his own notes he probably would have a couple and pictures of anime characters around that. I do have to help him with the reference sheets. I am the teacher who knocks on the desk when important info is said or read. THAT is me and I am not ashamed.

A female student looks onto cheet sheats to assit with her studies, with text overlay.

Study Habits Using Cheat Sheets

I don’t want my kids to study information that isn’t necessary. I mean education is good in all ways and information is great. However, when it comes to testing, I prefer my homeschoolers do not have to wonder what will be on an exam or essay.

My daughter loves doing cheat sheets herself and my son needs some assistance. Either way, we use them and we find them useful. Here is my logic —->

If your students will go to university one day, reference cheats are an excellent study tool for them. They can use them in between classes or during library study sessions. Cheat sheets get students in the habit of taking good notes, good summaries and pulling pertinent information.
