We love copywork. Well, my kids maybe not so much, though they do like their finished work when they can look back and be proud of their accomplishments.
I had the opportunity to attend a Charlotte Mason style conference last month. During one of the morning sessions we were able to try out an actual Charlotte Mason style morning as a student! We were handed two sheets of paper. One was a quote on education. The other was a blank sheet of paper. We were told to copy the quote in our best handwriting and that we only had ten minutes to do it. After about 7 minutes you could see all the moms in the room shaking their hands out, rubbing their wrists and looking at their watches! I couldn’t believe how much “work” was involved in copywork. I could literally feel my brain working overtime! You have to pay attention to detail, and do your best. It was eye opening for me to see that it really is work to help train your brain to pay attention to detail. Copywork is not just mindless busy work you get from workbooks. Copywork develops good habits and strengthens your brain at the same time!
