We can search for the best gift to give our kids, but there is one that God has already given to us. This holiday season, find out about how to give your kids a lasting gift: the gift of faith and hope.

Are you looking for that special gift? Something unique that will fit the person in mind? We scour the stores and the internet and stretch our budgets searching for that special gift.

No matter the occasion, whether it is a birthday, Christmas, or some other event, we buy-buy-buy. What happens after we give the gift? Often, even soon after, the gift is forgotten. We often overbuy for our little ones only for the items to break or their memory to be short-term.

The Gift of Faith

Faith is a gift like no other. Not only can we receive and enjoy this gift, but we can share it with our children as a legacy and practice it with our family and loved ones, and it is the gift that keeps on giving. It is not difficult to wrap, nor do you have to hide it for the perfect moment for the reveal.

Incredibly, faith is there waiting for us to ask. If you want more faith, what do you do? You pray for it, and miraculously, you will receive.

People ask for so many things, such as a specific item or winning the lottery. Did you know statistics show that many people who win the lottery become bankrupt? Why? Because these people spend more money than they have.

Not so with faith, it is available in abundance, and it never runs out. We only run out of faith when we turn our back on it. Why would someone turn their back? I have found it is because of fear.

One school friend told me, “Faith requires me to make a list of all the things I wish for and draw a big X over the entire page.” I never asked what was on the list, but we can probably imagine.

Faith does not require anything but the love of God. Once you love God and have a relationship with Him, joy comes easily. Sin does not make us happy, but faith does.

Reflecting on the Gift of Faith

Where do you place your trust? That is where your faith lies. Is it in a job? Is it in what people think of you? Is it in the things you have?

Spend time reflecting on these questions and ask your children as well. And our kids are watching. I caught myself saying, “Why is it that my kids always pick up my bad and not my good traits?” In prayer, the answer hit me.

I demonstrated my bad behaviors more often than my good, and children learn by example. For a limited time receive the Character Planner on the topic of Faith for free.

How can we demonstrate the gift of faith?

  • By leading lives that show our thoughtfulness to others, our kindness, and our compassion.
  • Worship and spending time in the Word, reading the Bible, or in prayer.
  • Showing patience and understanding to our children. Our kids will learn from our example, and they too will discover that faith is a gift.

In the Christian sense, faith accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and renounces sin. After all, most Americans spend their time celebrating Christmas, even non-believers.

Sure, it has become secularized over the years, but we can bring Christ back into Christmas. I wish others “Merry Christmas” or buy Christmas stamps with the nativity rather than Santa and snowmen.

We can give faith and hope through Random Acts of Kindness

Recently I saw an activity for kids that I loved about random acts of kindness, and I loved the examples in the handout for the children to create on their own.

For instance, a kind note to a sibling or parent is placed under a plate at dinner.

Chalk art that encourages a passerby, leaving a kind note for a waitress at a restaurant, or writing a thank-you note and giving it to the person at the drive-through window.

Kindness is the fruit of faith. True faith comes from the Lord and will sustain us all of our lives. It will outlast any fancy or expensive gift we will buy or receive, and it will surpass all of our wildest dreams.

Faith is the gift that withstands the test of time, keeps on giving, gives us the true peace that surpasses all understanding, and I encourage you not to leave this world without it.
