socialization for homeschoolers

Sonlight just started a free monthly webinar series dedicated to nurturing homeschool families and helping them navigate homeschooling challenges as they arise. It’s called Homeschool Helps & Hacks, and any parent who is homeschooling or considering homeschooling is welcome to participate.

The topic for July was socialization, and the replay is available if you missed it! Since videos are accessible for only 30 days following the event, act now to register. Access to this particular session ends on Aug. 20, 2021. If you’ve already missed that, there are still ways to join future seminars!

Let’s Talk About Socialization for Homeschoolers

In the first session of Homeschool Helps & Hacks, a panel of homeschool parents and mentors addressed some of the common misconceptions surrounding socialization for homeschooled children

Socialization woes don’t need to hold you back from the benefits of a homeschool education. On July 20, they discussed the issues from 1 to 3 p.m., and for 30 days, you are free to review and replay as much as you wish to see what this panel had to say about socialization.

If you prefer to read instead of watching videos, here’s the link to an in-depth article all about this important topic: Homeschooling Socialization: FAQs & Tips for Socializing Your Kids.

Meet This Month’s Homeschool Helps & Hacks Panel

The presenters who discussed socialization this month are seasoned homeschooling parents who have been guiding homeschoolers for years and years.

  • Judy Wnuk spent over 20 years working with Sonlight to share literature-based learning with her own children and beyond to families all over the US and Canada.
  • Deana Wood is a mother of four children ranging from age 9 to 14, and she has been homeschooling for nearly a decade.
  • Amber Severance has five children – one attending graduate school, two in college, one in high school, and one beginning 5th grade.
  • Jennifer Price discovered Sonlight early in her homeschool journey, and has used it every year since 2003 with all four of her children. Her oldest graduated from home, and some of the others have gone to public high school.

Together these moms talk about the topic of socialization—how they’ve navigated the trials, addressed the real issues, and put to rest any concerns. While a fear of weak social skills is a common myth swirling around the choice to homeschool, in fact, homeschoolers have more frequent and more meaningful opportunities to socialize! When it comes to socialization, homeschooling can often make it easier, not harder.

Of course, there are pitfalls to watch out for, and you do need to be deliberate about providing the socialization your children need. This session will set you on that path to positive socialization

Please Join! Participation Is Encouraged

The main session of the panel started at 1 p.m. with the discussion, and the live Q&A followed at 2 p.m. Each monthly session of Homeschool Helps & Hacks includes an opportunity to ask questions during the live Q&A, too, so join the next event and share your own questions.
