Banners

First, show your kids these ideas for banners and garlands. Nothing says “we’re having a party” like fun décor strung around the party venue. Whether it’s outside or in your living room, one of these garlands is sure to fit your birthday theme.

DIY Banners

You can use your printer and construction paper to create customized banners to fit the theme of your child’s birthday party! Plus, they’ll be so proud to show their friends what they made. Grab the scissors, paper, glue sticks, and ribbon to make a truly personalized banner for your next party.

Using a basic string art technique, your kids can create 3D shapes for a birthday garland. Create colorful circles, squares, stars, or any random design in your birthday party colors and hang the garland all around your space!

All you need is a cardboard box, wax paper, and toothpicks to create your template. Then, using twine and school glue, you’ll wrap the sticky string around your template until you’re happy with the results. After the string is dry, remove your 3D creation and string onto a garland.

Once your kids learn a simple folding technique, they’ll be able to create festive 8-Pointed Stars to hang up for your next birthday party! You can use custom colored paper to fit your party design. Add glitter for an extra pop of fun.

Pinatas

What would a birthday party be without a pinata? Instead of buying a ready-made design, enlist your kids to help create their own. Here are some fun ideas to try.

This Sun Pinata uses toilet paper rolls to add a unique twist to the traditional pinata design. You really can’t mess up a pinata – so let your kids have at it, mess and all! Kids love getting their hands messy with the newspaper and paste. Then, once it’s all dry, they can paint their sun pinata in bright colors. Let the fun begin!

If you want to try something different, consider making Mini Pinatas from paper snow cones or party hats. Your kids can decorate them with stickers, markers, and tissue paper before filling one side with candy and attaching two together. Making lots of mini pinatas is a great way to ensure everyone will get a chance to swing and hit a pinata before it breaks!

Party Favors

Party favors provide a fun way to continue the festivities after your guests have gone. Here are two fun ideas to include next to everyone’s spot at the party.

DIY Pinatas

Using totally recycled materials, show your kids how to create Eco-Friendly Party Poppers. You’ll need paper tubes, newspaper, materials for decorating, and trinkets to fill your popper.

Of course, the Confetti Blower might need to be used at the birthday party and sent home to refill! This one will help make add some excitement to the party. With just a simple design, some cutting, some gluing, and making a pile of confetti with a hole puncher, your kids will be ready to try out the Confetti Blower. Of course, it’s a great project for fine motor skills practice too.

Photo Booth Props

And finally, what’s a birthday party without a photo booth? But what’s even better is having your kids create the photo booth props themselves. Here are some great ideas to help you get started.

This Photo Booth Tutorial gives you some free downloadable printables to create your own props – like glasses, hats, mustaches, and more. Just print them out on colorful cardstock and attach to wooden dowels and you’ll be ready for your next party.

Kids ages 3-8 will love making their own Paper Plate Hat to show off in the photo booth. All you need are some paper plates, scissors, glue, feathers, and sequins to create personalized and unique props for the party pictures. This makes a great craft to include in your party plans.

This last idea is super simple, but would be great fun at your next birthday party! Just grab a huge supply of colorful pipe cleaners and let the kids go to town creating their own Royal Crown or some other design. You may need to help your child make a ring to fit their head, then the rest is up to their creativity!
