Do you ever stop for a moment to think of how amazing flight and airplanes are? From walking to soaring through the sky on an airplane, we surely have come a long way. These free resources about the invention of airplanes will help your homeschoolers learn all about this amazing invention.
We can’t really teach our children about planes without explaining the history and the evolution of the invention. What went through the human mind to think, “I am tired of walking. It would be great if we could do what birds do.”?
The only problem was that birds have light, hollow bones; very strong muscles; and amazing things called feathers that are specially designed for the air. We aren’t made for flight, but that never stopped us from dreaming of it.
Well, that is exactly what those credited for the invention of the airplane did. The Wright Brothers apparently studied how birds flew and used their wings to help design the wings for their air gliders and planes.
Ultimately, the invention of the airplane hinged on needing an engine or propellers to move it forward. This also required gravity or weight that pulled the plane down while friction (or the drag) slowed it down. Finally, the wings of planes had to have an aerofoil shape to help the plane with the challenge of gravity.
Many of us around the world are grateful for the invention of airplanes. This includes me, hands-down. The truth is that now that travel has been limited, we can learn to appreciate it even more.
It makes now a great time to help your children learn all about the invention of the airplane.
