If you want to make Bible study a priority in your home and homeschool in the coming year, then consider gifting some of these Bible study tools to your kids and teens this holiday season.

Bible Journals

One of the best purchases I have made are these ESV Illuminated Scripture Journals from Crossway. They provide individual or several smaller books of the Bible bound together in journal form. These are great for those of you who would rather not mark up your personal copy of the Bible.

One other benefit of these Scripture Journals is that they have dotted grid pages opposite of the text so that you have plenty of room to take notes as you study. The pages are sufficiently thick so that your pens and markers will not bleed through. This is one other benefit for marking these up rather than your actual Bible, which probably has thin pages!

You can buy the whole Bible in a boxed set. Or, you can just purchase individual books as you intend to read them.

If you want some suggestions on whole books to study, then I would consider:

  • James
  • I John
  • John
  • Proverbs
  • Philippians

Pens

What would Bible journaling be without a great set of pens for marking the text? Group a colorful set of pens with a Bible journal for a great gift.

Paper Mate Flair pens are my go-to favorite and they absolutely do not bleed through the pages of the Scripture Journals.

Women of the Word

Teens and adults would enjoy the conversational style of writing that Jen Wilkin uses to explain the importance of Bible literacy in her small book, Women of the Word:How to Study the Bible with Both Our Hearts and Our Minds. It provides a great foundation for understanding the importance of basing your Bible study directly on Scripture rather than someone’s interpretation of it.

You can hear Jen Wilkin explain some of her book’s core concepts on how to study the Bible on the Crossway podcast.

James Inductive Bible Study

For kids and teens who are interested in deep diving into inductive Bible study, check out the Inductive Bible Studies available for K-12 over at 4onemore.com

Whole-book studies provide the context and basis for digging into the text through three important steps: observation, interpretation, and application.

Give your kids the life skill of reading and understanding the Bible for themselves! Even if you’ve never learned how to do this, it’s not too late. And as we know as homeschool moms, one of the best things about homeschooling is learning right alongside of our kids.

Check out the Little Fishes Bible Study for kids in grades K-4 to give them a gentle introduction of the inductive method through the books of James and Jonah & Nahum.

Students in grades 5-12 will get a step-by-step study through James or Jonah & Nahum using the Self Study Workbook (with optional video lessons).

In fact, you can download FREE samples of all of these inductive Bible studies to get a peek without a commitment!
