Who doesn’t like sandwiches? November 3rd is National Sandwich Day, the perfect time for teaching geography with sandwiches around the world.

Sandwiches are America’s very favorite lunchtime item. I agree with this notion. Sandwiches are awesome!

It’s pretty cool to teach kids about where everyday things were derived from. Sandwiches are one of those things.

The sandwich is believed to be named after John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. Sandwich is a city in the shire of Kent in England.

The word was first spelled Sondwic, then Sandwic, and eventually in 1086 as Sandwice.

It is said that Montagu originally ordered his meat to be delivered to him between two slices of bread so he wouldn’t get his fingers greasy and he also didn’t want to have to eat with a fork.

It is debatable where the sandwich originated from, but whoever invented it — did a good thing for this world!

Why not learn about the countries you are studying in your homeschool by making sandwiches from that area. This a win/win activity to enhance your geography lessons.

Boy, do I miss sandwiches!

Where I live there are not deli meat sandwiches. You know the sandwiches with slices made by a meat slicer? YUM! They don’t have that here, so if you are reading this… have a thinly sliced deli meat sandwich for me and enjoy!
