I love the preschool age group. They are so full of energy and life though that it can be hard to get them to settle down for lessons like learning letters and letter sounds. So when my kids were little, I loved using whatever we were doing as a lesson.
If we were out for a walk, I would ask them to repeat certain words and emphasize the first letter and tell them what it was. I made sure they were looking at me to hear and see my mouth forming the correct sound; B-B-B Bark. They would repeat it back and all the while, we were still merrily walking along a dirt path in the middle of the woods. It was glorious!
Although I believe the preschool and early learning years are made for playing and exploring, we also reinforced learning letters and letter sounds with worksheets and activities inside too. When we do worksheets, we focus on one letter and its sound per week. If they seem to struggle with that, we might go two weeks. But even if they seem to pick it up easily, we rarely did more than one a week.
Use these worksheets and activities to help kids focus on learning letters and letter sounds as you work through the alphabet with your little ones.
