Genesis 7:18–19, “The waters prevailed and greatly increased on the earth, and the ark moved about on the surface of the waters. And the waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, and all the high hills under the whole heaven were covered.”
Even before I was a Christian I believed in a global flood of some sort. How else would the continents be spread apart the way they are today?
Do you know there are about 200 world flood myths in circulation today? This myth is of a world flood where only a few survived.
If there wasn’t a worldwide flood, I wonder why so many different cultures, religions, and groups of people have felt the need to pass that story down over the centuries.
The ancient Babylonians, Native Americans, Australian Aboriginals, Aztecs, Romans, Greeks, Chinese, Mayans, and more groups of people have recorded flood stories. Their stories also share similarities in Genesis like an angry god and few people who survived the ultimate flood.
In addition to this fact, there is physical evidence of the flood as well. Some scientists and people who do not take God’s Word as fact say that there may have been a “local” flood instead of a global flood.
The reason this has been brought up is that it is undeniable that there was a flood. They can admit to a local flood but the global flood could have barely any other explanation aside from reasoning that is of biblical proportions.
The mountains, peaks, and rocks explain that there was as a global Flood. A global flood was absolutely true. The history in the Bible is true! There really was a global flood that buried billions of dead things in rock layers laid down by water all over the earth.
It is safe to say that there has been nothing else like it in the world since.
There are both biblical and humanistic reasons why the global flood really happened. Here are a few pieces of evidence for you to ponder over:
Sea creature fossils high above sea level – Rock Layers more than a mile high up the walls on the Grand Canyon have marine fossils. Shellfish fossils were even found high in the Himalayas.
Evidence of rapid burial of animals and plants – There are fossil “graveyards” that have finely preserved fossils. This means that the fossils didn’t grow old gradually but show evidence of a swift covering which has preserved them in a manner that didn’t show signs of gradual decay. It is called “catastrophic destruction and burial.”
The Bible is history – The history of the Bible has been proven by other methods to prove the accounts actually happened. If we believe scripture than we believe the events that have been written.
The Word of God in the history of our world. How to Use the Bible to Teach History is a great place to understand where to start in teaching the history of the earth with the Bible.
Genesis 2:6, “and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground.”
Genesis 7:19–23, “And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. 20 The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep. 21 And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all …”

This is a fitting time to speak of the flood. Here is a scripture that tells you why:
Matthew 24:37–39 says, “For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”
Luke 17:26–27, “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.”
Lord, we await your return. These times help true Christians discern the events as your return draws near. Let us stay prepared and to keep our eyes focused on you, Lord. Help our children to internalize the truth from Your Word alone. You are worthy of ALL the glory, of all our praise. In your name, we pray, Amen.
