We enjoy doing thematic units in our homeschool, especially in the younger elementary ages. A popular thematic unit that is loved by all children, boys and girls, is the theme of transportation. Children are fascinated by large, moving objects such as big trucks, boats, trains, buses and airplanes. There are so many free resources about transportation to keep your kids busy for a long time.
Do you plan on doing a transportation theme with your little ones? Transportation themes can include movies, videos, printables, books, games, crafts and lots of hands-on activities. You can even take it a step further by picking a specific type of vehicle to study and learn more about. The sky is the limit when it comes to learning about transportation vehicles.
Kids love transportation vehicles:
I love how all kids enjoy different things. They find something they love and obsess about it with toys, shows, books etc… I absolutely love this stage of childhood. My only boy loved airplanes.
I also have three girls and they all loved different transportation vehicles. One daughter was fascinated with trains, that we had a train party for her one year. Another one really liked school buses, and we had to drive around and look for them constantly. My youngest daughter absolutely loves big semi trucks and construction equipment. We go out of our way to drive by construction sites because she gets so excited about them.
It’s a lot of fun to find what makes them happy and excited, and to sit on that for a bit. We always enjoy reading books and picking out toys for the specific vehicle that brings a big smile to their face whenever they come across it.
