The Constitution and the Bill of Rights

The Articles of Confederation were written the American Revolution. Ben Franklin wrote the first draft, but it did not pass because the colonists believed it gave too much power to the government. So in early 1787, Congress called for a special convention of all the states to revise the Articles of Confederation.

After four months of meeting in secret, the Constitution was born. The Bill of Rights was later added to the Constitution as the first ten amendments on December 15, 1791.
