There are many things changing and crazy events happening in America. It is more important than ever to learn about our founding documents. These documents shaped and helped to create our nation, our government and the laws today.
If you are learning about American History, your kids will be learning about our founding documents. These don’t seem to get enough attention in the history books. I feel it is important to really help our children understand why these documents matter. I hope you enjoy these free printables and resources to help your kids understand and learn about our founding documents. You may even learn something new too! I know that I always do.
Declaration of Independence
In June 1776, Thomas Jefferson composed a draft of the Declaration of Independence. This declaration announced to the world the separation of the 13 colonies from Great Britain. It declared the intent to establish the United States of America. On July 4, 1776, Congress completed the editing of the document with 56 men signing it, and America was born!

The Constitution and the Bill of Rights
The Articles of Confederation were written the American Revolution. Ben Franklin wrote the first draft, but it did not pass because the colonists believed it gave too much power to the government. So in early 1787, Congress called for a special convention of all the states to revise the Articles of Confederation.
After four months of meeting in secret, the Constitution was born. The Bill of Rights was later added to the Constitution as the first ten amendments on December 15, 1791.
