Kids have this natural yearning to exploring the world around them. Even before they can speak they want to grab different things, squeeze your face, and figure out how things feel –sometimes even with their mouth. A germaphobe mom’s nightmare.

However, the scientific method is a very important way that the science community has developed to experiment with the world we live in.

What is the scientific method?

The scientific method is a process by which we use to understand the phenomena through a specific method of discovery. There are BASIC 5 steps to the scientific method. I say basic because there may be some more steps you find out there as your child grows older. For now, we are focusing on the basic 5.

  • Make an observation
  • Form a hypothesis
  • Experiment
  • Ask a question
  • Record your results

The scientific is one of the most important inventions humans have ever come up with. Yet, what’s interesting is that it is actually not entirely formalized even today. That is also why there are so many other versions and additions to these basic five steps.

As Christians, we can see the scientific method as a good thing. Many people would like to stay clear of science altogether. People think science is direct opposition to Christianity. I beg to differ.

In fact, we should be glad that people aren’t just making up random conclusions and explanations to problems with no real data to back them up.

Even the most decorated scientist at best can only come up with a scientific hypothesis about how the world came to be. There is no scientific method that can prove the Big Bang, that we derived from some type of marine animal or evolved from monkeys etc.

The very scientific method that people have come up with to prove facts about life, has yet to even come close to disprove the existence of God.

One thing they can’t deny is something I learned from Living Waters Ministries. They say that the mere proof of creation proves that there is a Creator.

When we see a painter we know it is there because of a painter. All of us know that when we see a building, we know there existed a builder. Consequently, when we see the wonders of creation, there is no doubt that there is a Creator.

The exact process of science is designed to challenge different ideas through research. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the word “science” is derived from the Latin word scientia, which is knowledge based on demonstrable and reproducible data.

Use the scientific method to teach kids how we can come up with solutions, and how the world views examining life. There should be a method for science, knowledge attained through study or practice. As long as they understand, the Creator who made it all.

Your kids will enjoy the scientific method using the printables, experiments, and activities I have listed below. Enjoy!
