I have to admit that I went through a phase in my life when I was a Post-it Note junkie; I was a supervisor at an office job. We used LOTS of Post-it Notes at work. Guess what? When I left that position to inevitably homeschool, it meant I was left with a whole lot of Post-it Notes that I had no idea what to do with. Until I found some ways to use the Post-it Notes in my homeschool.

10 Ways to Use Post-It Notes In Your Homeschool!

There are Post-it Notes in every color and shape you can imagine. I think many of us have had an excess amount of them in our lifetime. They are actually perfect for so many things. I use them as reminders for myself or family, I use them as reading tabs, and to give love notes to my kids and husband.

As a work-at-home mom, I still love my Post-it Notes and can’t live without them as they help keep my desk organized. Post-it Notes make awesome additions to your homeschool lessons and learning environment. No matter the age of your kids, Post-it Notes can be used for all of them and for various subjects.

As a matter of fact, Post-it Notes have been around for 38 years! They started off with just the plain yellow color and a few shapes to now a colorful array of shapes and sizes.

Here are 10 different ways to use Post-it Notes in your homeschool:

Post-it Note Brainstorming

I was taught to brainstorm when trying to write in college. Apparently brainstorming is one of the best techniques for creative problem-solving. Your kids can use Post-it notes to organize ideas, thoughts, and keynotes to what they want to write.

All you need is a large piece of empty wall, whiteboard space, or even butcher paper to save the brainstorming process for when your child is ready to write their paper.

Post It note brainstorming doesn’t have to be used only for writing. Your kids can use it to solve problems, to make decisions, and to gather ideas for birthday parties or field trips.

Post-it Notes Memory Game

Do any of your kids need some help with memory, concentration, or attention span? A matching/memory game is perfect to help your child in these areas. Usually, we have to do these games on the floor or on a table.

However, using Post It Notes to play the Memory Game gets your kids up, standing and out of those seats. The memory game can be used to practice sight words, shapes, letters, or even numbers.

Post-it Note Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts are super fun for kids. You can use Post-it notes in your child’s scavenger hunt for learning, engagement, and movement.

Build your child’s vocabulary by developing a compound word scavenger hunt. Write some words on Post It Notes that can be combined to form compound words. Some examples could be “pop”, “corn”, “ball”, “park”, “sun”, “flower” etc.

You can also do a sight word scavenger hunt. First practice sight words with your child. Develop a sheet with your sight words and have your child tick off the sight word on the sheet as they find them. You can do this with nouns and verbs as well!

Post-it Note Art and Crafts

Check out this site to see some amazing arts and crafts to do with your kids. If you are anything like me then you are not that art mom. I need a lot of help when it comes to giving art lessons. These Post-it note ideas for arts and craft will give you endless ideas to keep your art lessons simple and fun. Some of the arts and craft ideas include pinwheels, tulips, wall murals, and more.

Post-it Note Encouragement

If you have been homeschooling for any length of time, you know that homeschooling can be tough. Whether your child struggles with their subjects, miss their friends, or just because words of encouragement go a long way.

No matter how long I homeschool my kiddos, they never get tired of receiving my little Post-it love notes for them. Use some encouraging words for them like “don’t worry”, “I love you”, wow, you did great!”, “you are so smart”, and anything else your kids will love (and need) to hear from you.

Post-it Note Fact Families

Fact families are a group of math facts that use the same number. For instance, the numbers 4, 6, 10 can be use like this: 4 + 6 = 10, 10 – 6 = 4, 6 + 4 = 10, 10 – 4 = 6.

Use a whiteboard or butcher paper to write down fact family exercises with one missing number as a Post-it note. Your child can then write the missing number to the fact family on the blank Post-it notes.

Post-it Note Sudoku

If your kids like Sudoku, this Sudoka version brain game will be fun for them. Sudoku is an awesome brain game that kids of all ages can enjoy. They are fill-in the blank puzzles with numbers, blank spaces and more. Draw a simple 4X4 grid for the puzzle, fill up the cells using the Post-it notes and help your kids use their logic and motor skills.

Telling Time with Post-it Notes

Will you be teaching your kiddos to tell time this homeschool year? If so all you need with this telling time activity is a cork square board, some makeshift ticker, tacks, and Post-it notes. Worksheets work fine for telling time practice but this activity gets your kids up and moving, working on their fine motor skills and of course telling time.

Reading Comprehension with Post-it Notes

Your kids can record their thoughts of a book or reading passage. A few sticky note guides to get your kids thinking and understanding what they are reading are:

A confusing part was…

An important part was…

My favorite part was…

I connected with…

A funny part was…

I didn’t understand…
