Have you ever heard of the Show, Don’t Tell Writing Strategy? If you want your children to be more descriptive in their writing or narratives, this Show, Don’t Tell Writing Strategy can be just what you need to get your kids more vividly describe characters in their writing. They will use emotions to enhance writing.
It was so hard just to get my son to write paragraphs. Once I wanted him to start being more descriptive in his writing, it was like he could not get it. More so it was grueling for him to think of the words to use for explaining a situation or a character’s emotion. Worse yet, he had to do that AND put it all on paper.
It wasn’t like pulling teeth, but it seemed as frustrating as that but without the physical pain. I think many of you can relate to some subject or the other.
I honestly have never thought about using emotions to enhance my student’s writing. This engaging activity for reading and writing is helpful in showing kids how to express what the character’s body, voice, and face are doing in order to create and enrich the details of their stories.
