My kids love to make puppets. Out of their old socks, paper bags, popsicle sticks, just paper or whatever we have lying around. They can get pretty creative when they want to and enjoy creating them almost as much as playing with them.
Living in such a tight space, we keep very little craft supplies on hand. That means they have to use their creativity and stretch their imaginations as they create, which of course I love. And when they are done creating puppets, the puppet shows go on for hours!
They learn to role play and create dialogue with conflicts and resolutions. They create an entire imaginary land with characters who actually have back-stories and a history. I love listening to them play and brainstorm new and different ways to use their imaginations.
You might wonder why you should not only let, but encourage your children to play with puppets. As I mentioned, it promotes creativity and imaginary role play. They can learn to deal with conflicts in a healthy, non-threatening way. As they use their imaginations, it can easily transfer to creative writing and make the transition to writing papers easier and more fun.
Promote creativity and inspire their imaginations with these easy-to-make puppets!
