Grocery shopping is one of those must-do’s because the fam needs to eat, but it’s definitely one of the most dreaded tasks of homeschool moms everywhere.

Because, let’s admit it, there are much better ways to spend our time than walking through the grocery store, standing in a long checkout line, then loading it all into the car. And doing it with one, three, five kids, or more just adds to the frazzle.

In my rural area, our local store finally started offering the Walmart Grocery Pickup service. So, if my backwoods town has this service, yours probably does too!

As you get your weekly responsibilities organized and create your fall schedule, consider switching over to Walmart’s online ordering and pickup service.

Here are 10 reasons why you should.

Have you tried Walmart Grocery Pickup yet? Here are 10 reasons why you should. There are no lines

Every time I end up shopping at Walmart, I have the magical ability of picking the slowest cashier. But when I use Grocery Pickup I don’t have to wait to check out, because I choose my items and pay online!

You can stay within your budget

When you click on an item to add it to your cart, the right side of your screen will show an up-to-date tally of the current total cost of everything in your cart. So, if you’re trying to stay in a $150 weekly budget, you can easily see if you’ve gone over. Then, instead of walking something back to another aisle in the store, you can just take it out of your online cart. Easy peasy.

You don’t need to take the kids into the store

This one is worth its weight in gold. Seriously.

I haven’t shopped with kids for years, since I have teens in the house who can stay home with the younger kids. But boy – would I have loved this option about 10 years ago! If you have littles, this service will allow you to shop for groceries without the hassle.

You can save 1-3 hours per week

We all have 168 hours in a week. What could you do with an extra 1-3? That’s how much time I save every week by shopping online and doing pickup. That’s possibly 8 hours a month. Or 104 hours a year!

And it’s so convenient to schedule your grocery pick-up. So instead of taking a whole morning or afternoon, I just schedule a time to show up for my groceries when I’m already going to be out of the house and nearby Walmart.

I picked up my groceries after church last week when I was already in town. So convenient.

Their online shopping site is intuitive and easy to use

I’ve used some other local store’s online shopping platforms, and they were not user-friendly. The Walmart Grocery Pickup site works so well and you can clearly see what you are purchasing, the price per ounce, and if it’s something like meat that might vary in weight, they will tell you the highest price you might pay for a package.

You can order more than just groceries

This was a big selling point for me. Not only are groceries cheaper at Walmart than other grocery stores in my area, but I love the convenience of adding non-grocery items to my order.

Most grocery stores sell health and beauty items, but not many sell mason jars, spray paint, command hooks, and other household items.

Since I sell on Etsy, I’m constantly needing new supplies – and it’s efficient to add a few cans of spray paint to my order rather than walking in the store!

What other items do you normally buy at Walmart other than groceries? See if you can add them to your pick-up.

The app lets you know when your groceries are ready

You can place your online order and schedule the time that works for you to pick up your groceries. The Walmart Grocery app will let you know when they’re ready.

Then, you can share your location with the app, and it will track your trip to the store so that they have the order ready for you when you pull in! Remember, no waiting in lines!

Google check in

You can avoid the busy part of the parking lot and head right on over to the orange Pickup area at one side of the store.

They bring out the order right away

When I arrived, the Walmart Grocery app knew I had arrived by my smart phone’s location. Then they asked me to tell them which parking spot I was in, and they would be right out – and they were.

Walmart knows how to create systems and they are good at this.

Look at the bin system they designed for the grocery pickup department.

If there are substitutions, they check with you first – and you always get the lowest price, even if they have to substitute in a larger quantity or more expensive item.

They load your car

No need to struggle with loading heavy bags into the car. They’ll do it for you. VIP treatment for sure.
