It is important we remind ourselves who God truly is and how exactly we view Him. This FREE 30-day scripture writing plan will help you discover who God truly is to you.
I was hearing a sermon from Voddie Baucham the other day, it was about unforgiveness. He said something about forgiveness that hugely convicted me and had me taken aback. He said:
People who do not forgive, question their salvation often. It is because they think that God’s “forgiveness” looks like their “forgiveness”.
I wanted to crawl in a hole. I do doubt my salvation at times. I do harbor unforgiveness. It all made sense and it was a little troubling to me, really. It made me realize that we often view God through our own human lens.
Our view of who He is is often times skewed. Heavily skewed even. The most scholarly theology can get who God is wrong when emotions come into play and we view Him in a way where we compare Him to us, instead of comparing ourselves to Him.
We fail daily, He does not. We are unforgiving, while He paid the ultimate sacrifice for us to be forgiven.
It is important that we are reminded who God is in the whole scheme of life. It is important what we think He is. Above all, it is important we read His Word to learn who He is. Jesus asked His disciple, “but who do YOU say I am?”
Therefore, we know that although we walk with Him daily, we still need to reminded who He is. We examine ourselves to ensure we are being molded to be more like Him, and not our view of Him to molded to who we are.
