Developing a nightly routine for kids that actually stick, especially if it hasn’t been consistent in the past, is not easy. The truth of the matter is, nightly routines can do so much more for you than you think. They aren’t just for your kids – they are for you too.
I realized this when I was going through a really traumatic time in my life. All I had the energy to do was the bare minimum. I was working a full-time job, taking online classes, and going through really tough times.
I remember working, picking up my children, helping them with homework while making dinner, doing dishes, making sure they were bathed, and I put them straight to sleep. I was a complete zombie afterward. However, I had to do this every day in order to keep my sanity. Night time was for studying and sometimes crying.
It was very healthy for me to this, but I didn’t know how much it was at the time. It helped create a habit in them and they woke up so much better in the mornings. They still have a routine to this day and it really helps my work-at-home life and marriage.
