We have had such an amazing response from our other themed reading comprehension packs that we are continuing to make them and think you will really enjoy the Seven Wonders of the Age of Steam Reading Comprehension History Unit.
Thousands of homeschoolers are using our reading comprehension packs in various ways. If you have homeschooled any length of time, you know how homeschoolers love to make homeschooling curriculum and other homeschool-related resources work for their homeschool.
The intended use, obviously, is to share non-fiction information based on true facts in the topics of science, geography, and history (so far). Students will learn fascinating information in short nuggets and then answer some reading comprehension questions. These reading comp packs are geared to 4-8th grade, but of course it’s completely flexible.
There are multiple ways that you can use our reading comprehension printables aside from reading and answering questions. Here are some ideas:
- Create a notebook for your reading comprehension units & make each new one that comes out a new “section”
- Use written narration to write what you learned
- Use a blank notebooking page to draw an illustration of the subject of the reading passage
- Use a separate page to answer the questions with complete sentences
You can really expand on these topics and also do further research on areas of particular interest.
About the Seven Wonders of the Age of Steam Reading Comprehension History Unit
There are seven reading comprehension lessons in this history themed unit, all based on the Seven Wonders of the Age of Steam. It’s intended to be a supplement to your study of history and geared for grades 4-8. You will find answer keys in the index for each lesson.
You will learn about:
- Bell Rock Lighthouse
- Great Eastern
- Transcontinental railroad
- London sewers
- Gotthard Tunnel
- Brooklyn Bridge
- Eiffel Tower
The 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad and the golden spike is May 10, so it would be a great time to expand on that unit since it’s included in this printable pack.
Bonnie Rose with Write Bonnie Rose, one of our contributors and the author of our Reading Comprehension Units, has some great supplemental resources that would go along nicely with this. Her printable packs are super affordable, starting at just $.99.
My favorite companion for the Seven Wonders of the Age of Steam Reading Comprehension History Unit is 30 Days of History: Early American Transportation, which includes 30 aspects of early transportation history including the Erie Canal, the Oregon Trail, the transcontinental railroad, and much more (and it’s ONLY $3.49!).
