I have to admit I didn’t know much about what dictating assignments even meant until recently. I didn’t know about letting children with autism or other auditory processing components to learning dictate writing assignments instead of actually writing them.
First, I would like to state that the adjustment to a learning style that this provides is pretty awesome. However, how do you know when it is time to transition your child from dictating writing assignments to gradually writing them?
I believe this really can be a tough transition, especially if kids have a sensory issue and don’t like even holding a pencil. How can we begin to know or begin to start getting them to write? We definitely don’t want to enable our children to be accustomed to dictating if they have the ability to write with a little help.
It probably takes a lot of work and moms are overwhelmed as it is. This resource really helps guide you through the process and thinking of whether you can start transitioning your child to physically writing assignments or not.
With new transcription software like Dragon that is making it more commonplace for peoples with disabilities to dictate-to-type, I wonder if it is a big problem at all.
Check out what Our Crazy Adventures in Autismland has to say about how long you should let your child dictate writing assignment.
