The next project I try in gardening has to be a small space gardening adventure. Want to know why? I kill every plant I ever planted – every plant. The last time I tried to grow anything was a little over a year ago. I think I am ready to try it out again. These 20+ great small space gardening ideas seem like a great place to start.
I do have a yard but apparently, there are only a few spots that are fertile enough for me to grow anything. Since last year, my husband and I have been working on composting a small section where I want to place my next “attempt” at gardening. We will see how it goes.
If you have only a small space to garden or you think you don’t have any space at all, then stop by this article to give you some cool ideas to make it work. This list of small space gardening ideas is full of ideas that will inspire you to try your hand at growing some herbs or vegetables in your front yard, tight spaces, or even on your patio.
I wanted to share a few tips and ideas I found online to explore before starting my small space gardening project:
- If your backyard is pretty shady then know that lettuce and spinach do fairly well in shady conditions, — but most other vegetables do not.
- Start your garden in the sunniest part of your yard.
- Make clear plans ahead of time for your layout (Just grab a sheet of paper and start with a square.)
- Start seedlings indoors (Start your seedlings indoors before warm weather is here for good.)
- Invest in excellent tools (You’ll have a much easier time working in your garden when you have decent tools.)
- Start a compost pile (I started mine a year ago, wish me luck!)
- Always try to devote a section to herbs.
- Have a water source nearby.
- Make it as easy as possible to water your garden.
This is where I am starting. Head over to Proverbial Homemaker for these 20+ awesome ideas for small space gardening.
