Botany is the scientific study of plants. If your family loves plants then check out these botany unit study ideas that your homeschool kids will love. Some parents love the outdoors. Me? Not so much. My family loves nature and I love to stay home and enjoy the comfort of no bugs, burning sun, and noise. I am horrible, I know. Homeschooling has made me come completely out of my comfort zone and botany is one of the things we study every year that gets me right outside and into nature head-on.
Spring is a great time for botany unit studies as they tend to get your family outside and excited about learning. There is so much to learn in nature. Not being a nature lover, I had no idea just how much homeschool will drag me to the outdoors. I secretly don’t mind it anymore, because of all the cool things my kids (and I) learn. Plants literally supply us with the levels of oxygen that we have in our atmosphere right now.
Plants provide us with a source of food, fuel, and have medicinal implications. Although I have always felt like I destroy any plant I have ever tried to grow, I don’t want to give up. We now live in an area where the soil is extremely fertile so the kids and I will try our best to grow some herbs and plants this year. Join us in exploring botany this year.
