Is your child having some difficulty with learning subtraction? This giant set of no prep math subtraction games will be great for your child who is struggling. These resources are simple and easy to set up but still have what your child needs to learn subtraction strategies for the basic facts. A lot of the time children can comprehend addition a lot easier than they can grasp the concept of subtraction. It is hard for parents to understand why the very opposite of addition can be such a challenge for their young learner, yet it can be.

There are countless fun ways to teach addition, putting sets together for a total is fun. Yet subtraction is the reverse and brains can take some time to adjust that fact. Subtraction is one of the most important math skills kids will learn, as it essential for all types of computation, and will be a part of the foundation for learning division and fractions.

Here are a few things to do that make learning subtraction a little easier for your learner.

  • Lay a strong foundation for learning addition. Do not rush through it.
  • Deliberately point out connections between addition and subtraction problems.
  • Give lots of hands-on practice with counters, math stories, objects, and any activities to teach subtraction facts. Again, do not rush. It is better the foundation is sturdy before moving on to more complex skills.
  • Help your kids drill subtraction facts with physical body motion activities as it builds connections to help kids remember. They can drill while jumping rope, playing a clapping game, when listening to a CD with subtraction songs, using flashcards, or by playing memory games.

Find what works for your kids and teach to their learning styles. Using games for learning subtraction or any other subject is fun for kids and good for mom.
