Unit studies are a fun way to take a break from academics and lesson plans. Children learn about something we may not normally fit into our daily homeschool schedule. Our children may have seen plenty of Christmas time movies. However, a deep dive into the classic movie is a great way for our students to learn during the holidays.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a wonderful, classic story to read out loud and learn about during Christmas time.

Is A Christmas Carol good for kids?

Children from the ages of 7 to 18 can totally read the classic A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens in 1843 on their own. They can learn lots from it. You can read simple versions to your children younger than that in an easy-to-read version – Christmas Carol.

What is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens about?

The story’s main character is Ebenezer Scrooge who truly is a miser (wealth hoarder/a cheapskate). He is also NOT fond of Christmas at all. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by four ghosts. They are the ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas future, present, and his former partner Jacob Marley.

Their visit is all in hopes that Scrooge will change his ways. Otherwise, he will face the negative consequences of staying the same. Our children can learn about helping others, thinking of others, and the importance of love and compassion. Students also can learn about greed and its impacts.

Where can we access A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens?

Your students can read this book for free on the Project Gutenberg public domain.

They can also listen to it being read aloud from LibriVox.

If your family prefers the physical copy, you can purchase it on Amazon.
